Sunday, sunshine, sunkissed… and a Goodreads giveaway!

Enter now for a chance to win 50 Sunflowers to Knit, Crochet & Felt: Patterns and Projects Packed with Lush and Vibrant Colors That You Will Love to Make by master knitter and designer Kristin Nicholas. Here, she grows her own field of colorful sunflowers and now brings the iconic sunflower to fiber life using knitting, crochet, felting, and embroidery. Included are designs for over thirty different sunflower blooms and buds in a variety of sizes, plus eight different leaf and vine designs, and a host of critters who live in a sunflower field—from birds and honeybees, to butterflies and caterpillars—a total of fifty items.

Laid out like the previous books in the series, 50 Sunflowers to Knit, Crochet & Felt by Kristin Nicholas includes all the useful information you need for making the flowers—which needles, crochet hooks, embroidery needles, and types of yarns to use, plus a special explanation of how to choose yarn that felts well.

Freebie Friday: Giant Sungold Sunflowers

In Southern California where I grew up, a three-hour drive often involved experiencing the beach, the mountains, the desert–all in one go. And along the way, without fail, wild sunflowers. A mere glimpse out the window at their waving heads would pierce the darkest of moods. GiantSungoldThey’ve always been one of my favorite flowers.

Being in NYC, I’m thousands of miles away from that scene, but with hotter days on the horizon, I’m indulging a little bit… in nostalgia. This week’s FREE PROJECT DOWNLOAD is the Giant Sungold–a knitted pattern from Kristin Nicholas’ 50 Sunflowers to Knit, Crochet & Felt, which includes 50 original designs of colorful sunflower blooms and buds, as well as leaves, stems, and little sunflower-loving critters to use on accessories, clothing, gifts, housewares…and so much more.

So grab your needles and hooks. The world is your sunflower!

50 Sunflowers to Knit & Crochet Book and Yarn Giveaway

50 Sunflowers to Knit Crochet & Felt_FINAL cover

Happy Spring! Despite it being in the low-40s here in New York, the flowers are just starting to poke out of the ground, which gives me hope that warmer temperatures and spring dresses are just around the corner! To celebrate the season we’re having a giveaway for our fabulous new book 50 Sunflowers to Knit & Crochet by Kristin Nicholas along with some Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton yarn.

We are so excited about this book. The sunflower patterns are bright and cheery and come in all shapes and sizes. Plus, there are patterns for leaves and stems, butterflies, ladybugs, and bumblebees to add to the collection. Looking through this book just puts you in a good mood. It radiates springtime and sunshine. And there’s no one better to translate a field of sunflowers into knit and crochet patterns than author Kristin Nicholas. Kristin lives on Leyden Glen Farm, a working sheep farm in western Massachusetts with her husband and daughter (Oh, and not to mention, 400 sheep, 3 border collies, 2 Great Pyrenees guard dogs, 10 cats, 30 chickens, 1 guard donkey, and 1 guard llama). In the summer, her family grows a field of sunflowers that was the inspiration for this book. Check out the video below to see Kristin working on the farm and to hear how she incorporates color beautifully into her work and life.

If you’d like to enter win a copy of 50 Sunflowers to Knit & Crochet along with two skeins of Lion Brand’s Kitchen Cotton yarn, then leave a comment below (and while you’re at it, feel free to sign up for our newsletter at the top-right of this page). Please only one comment per person and, sorry, but this contest is for U.S. and Canadian citizens only. This giveaway will run from March 21 — March 28  and two winners will be chosen at random using on Friday, March 29. Good luck!
