Free Friday Project: Color the Matryoshka Russian Nesting Dolls!

Once in a while, I check History.com to see what happened on this day in history–sometimes I do it for inspiration, more often, because of curiosity. On this day in history, October 23, back in 1958, it was announced that Boris Pasternak would be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, “an event which both humiliated and enraged the Communist Party of the Soviet Union,” and which forced him to decline the prize, according to Wikipedia. 30 years later, in 1988, his descendants accepted the award in his name.

I’m not sure why, out of all of the many things that happened on this day in history–from a hostage crisis in Moscow Theatre in 2002 to a World Series winning homerun by Toronto Blue Jays Joe Carter in 1993 to the births of Johnny Carson and Michael Crichton–that Boris and his short-term bittersweet win inspired this week’s free project download. Perhaps because I loved both Doctor Zhivago as a novel and a movie (seriously crushed on Omar Sharif), maybe because it’s the end of October and it’s getting chillier outside and there’s a thought-inducing hue blanketing the evening skies. I can’t know for sure.

Today, on this day in history October 23 2015, we’re paying homage to Boris Pasternak, his Russian heritage, and offering a downloadable spread of Matryoshka Dolls from Four Seasons: A Coloring Book by Aiko Fukawa.
